The firewood factory in Jämtland, Sweden

Since 2009, we have been cutting, splitting, drying, and packaging firewood at our factory in Rätan, Jämtland. We deliver dry birch firewood, approximately 30 cm in length, packaged in 40L bags to stores and businesses. We process 16,000 solid cubic meters of birch per season. The factory is owned by Qvarnsjö Skogstjänster AB and exports birch firewood to Stockholm and Norway under the brand name Ved of Sweden.

Raw Material

Timber trucks from local forests arrive and unload raw material at the factory’s log yard. The logs are forwarded to firewood machines that saw and split them. When sourcing raw material, we aim to buy as locally as possible within Southern Jämtland. Want to sell birch to us? Read more here.

Cutting and Splitting

With a total of 13 firewood machines, we cut and split approximately 16,000 solid cubic meters of birch firewood per year. We sort out everything that isn’t birch. The firewood passes through a cleaning system that separates it from loose bark, small pieces, and debris. Our standard length is 30 cm.

Drying Process

We dry the firewood in drying chambers heated by burning wood waste from the production. Water circulates and is heated in large wood-fired boilers, then distributed through pipes to the different chambers where fans circulate and warm the air. The firewood is dried for at least 5 days. The drying process is monitored several times daily using digital temperature and moisture meters until the correct moisture content is reached. We then perform random checks on logs and weigh entire crates to ensure the drying process is complete and functioning properly. All birch firewood is dried to 20% moisture content.

Packaging

The firewood is packaged in bags, stacked and wrapped by machine, before being moved by forklift to storage or directly for delivery. We pack birch firewood in 40L and 30L bags.

Wrapping

Thanks to a wrapping machine from Verbruggen Palletizing Solutions, the pallet-building process is made easier. The machine is fed with bags and builds the pallets according to a predetermined pattern.

Delivery Directly from the Firewood Factory

We deliver using our own truck or an external freight carrier. You are also welcome to pick up your order with your own transport at the factory. To receive a delivery, you need a space where a truck can park and a wheel loader or another machine with pallet forks to unload.
